Thanks to a new pop-up food experience, flavors from around the world can be sampled without traveling.
The outdoor street food pop-up has opened in Newark and serves dishes from around the world.
Layton Barnes opened the Hush Courtyard in the Castle Restaurant on Castlegate four weeks ago with his business partner Darren Hampton.
The Hush Courtyard also has a fully licensed bar.
Considered the first of its kind in town, it has four stalls and a bar where guests can enjoy a drink with their freshly prepared food.
The four items currently on the menu are Asian Infusion, Mediterranean, Mexican, and American Smokehouse, but these are subject to change.
Layton, who has been a chef for nine years, said he and Darren wanted to have a street food experience with a speak-easy vibe.
Outdoor seating is available for summer nights.
Hush Street Food will be open all summer as well as take-away options.
Layton said, “We surprisingly found that we had more people on days when it was raining, but we had constant support throughout.
“It’s just about making our name better known.”
The business owner moved to Newark two years ago and teamed up with Darren, who has over 20 years of cooking experience.
Originally from South Africa, Layton started making and selling sushi from home during the national lockdown and quickly noticed a niche in the market for its food.
“With my skills and experience, I had to grow,” said Layton.
The Hush Courtyard is open Wednesday through Sunday and serves both lunch and dinner to hungry locals.
