The Alumni Engagement Offices at Rutgers University – Newark and Rutgers University – Camden have launched a weeklong friendship contest to see which alumni and friends can donate money or groceries to their respective pantries, PantryRun in Newark and Raptor Pantry in Camden 10 .-17. November. The results of the Raiders vs. Raptors Food Drive Challenge are in!
For their fundraising drives, each alumni team received more than 100 generous donors to donate more than $ 6,000 to their cause. The Rutgers-Newark Raiders collected 105 donors and raised $ 6,830. The Rutgers-Camden Raptors raised $ 6,110 with 116 donors.
“Since the competition measured the number of donors, Camden …[A]As a result, your winnings unlocked an additional $ 1,000 for the Raptor Pantry, ”said Alexandra Brown, Special Project Coordinator at the Rutgers University Alumni Association and the Alumni Center in Rutgers-Newark.
“PantryRUN and the Raptor Pantry provide reliable access to groceries and toiletries, and connect students with the necessary campus services. Although students are studying remotely, there is high demand in the pantry for groceries and support services this semester, ”stated the Rutgers University Foundation.
The Raiders vs. Raptors Food Drive Challenge was inspired by the University’s Charter Day, which commemorates the day William Franklin, New Jersey’s last colonial governor, signed the charter in 1766 that established Queen’s College, the forerunner of Rutgers University For years, Rutgers has celebrated Charter Day as a day of service.
The Raiders vs. Raptors Food Drive Challenge is one of many projects that alumni can support students with. “[O]Further possibilities for alumni to get involved in funding opportunities for students [include] Emergency Funds and Scarlet Promise Grants, ”said Terranze Griffin, director of alumni engagement at Rutgers University – Newark.
Inspired by an initiative by the Rutgers Board of Trustees, Scarlet Promise Grants provide Rutgers students with needs-based assistance and, in some cases, short-term financial difficulties as part of their grant packages. The grants are funded from annual university budgets and philanthropic funds.
