PATERSON – Two teenagers are accused of planning a fatal ambush that killed a 21-year-old man last month.

Paterson police said they found Newark resident Jose Figueroa, who was shot multiple times and was on the street on the evening of May 1. He died a short time later.

19-year-old Chelsee Ramirez and a 17-year-old man, both from Paterson, were arrested on Tuesday, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia Valdes said.

Investigators said that Ramirez and the teenager, whose identity was not disclosed due to his age, had planned a coordinated attack that involved multiple shooters who took them to the intersection of Totowa Avenue and Redwood Avenue, where Figueroa was gunned down.

The juveniles are each charged with first degree murder and conspiracy to murder, as well as possession of a controlled third degree dangerous substance.

The public prosecutor’s office did not provide any information on a possible motive.

On Thursday, Ramirez stayed in the Passaic County Jail while the teenage boy was at the Essex County Juvenile Detention Center in Newark, both pending trial.
