Newark’s annual Food and Brew Festival will be held for the 16th time on Saturday.
Fourteen bars and restaurants on Main Street offer beer tastings as well as special menu items.
The pay-as-you-go event will take place from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. The first 2,000 customers will receive a souvenir tasting that can be picked up at any participating restaurant.
There will also be a root beer tasting on the academy’s lawn.
“The Newark Food & Brew has become a summer rite,” said Jerry duPhily, editor of Out & About Magazine, in a prepared statement. “When we worked with the City of Newark 16 years ago to organize this event, events focused on craft beer were a novelty. Today they are commonplace. The nice thing about this event, however, is that guests can explore Newark and check out the many participating restaurants. It’s an ideal showcase for the city’s dining scene. “
With the end of the Downtown Newark Partnership, the city is no longer involved in organizing the event. However, the city will continue to provide free parking at Main Street meters and on city lots throughout Saturday.
Participating restaurants include: Ali Baba, Arenas Deli and Bar, Caffé Gelato, Churrascaria Saudades, The Deer Park Tavern, Finn McCools Irish Gastropub, Grotto Pizza, Iron Hill Brewery, Klondike Kates, Pachamama, Santa Fe Mexican Grill and Bar, Stone Balloon Ale house and tavern. The Delaware Growler liquor store is also participating.
