NEWARK, CA – Newark was named one of the top 100 safest cities in the state of California, according to SafeWise, an online safety resource that analyzed data from California. For perspective, the Golden State has a total of 482 municipalities.
To produce this report, SafeWise analysts reviewed the latest FBI crime statistics and 2017 census data. The score is based on the number of reported violent crimes in each city per 1,000 residents. If there was a tie, they also took into account the number of property crimes, including burglary and car theft. Cities that fell below the identified population thresholds or did not submit a full FBI crime report were excluded from the ranking system.
