A currently inactive liquor license that was previously used by an exclusive lunch and entertainment venue in downtown Newark could soon be used in a space around the corner.

The Newark Club’s retail license for plenary retail sales has been transferred to Fleet Hospitality, according to a public announcement. The announcement currently links the license to the Praedium Group in Manhattan and lists Marc Berson and Jeffrey Hersh as members of Fleet Hospitality.

Berson, better known as the chairman of the Fidelco Realty Group, told Jersey Digs that the license will be used by another operator in the old Noodle shop on 218 Market Street. The address in question is in the RockPlaza Lofts complex on the south side of Market Street between Broad and Mulberry Streets.

A new restaurant for the space is in the works, according to Berson. The name of the potential future inmate has not yet been announced, but could be disclosed in the near future should a deal be struck.

The Newark Club, dubbed the Metropolitan Room for the past few years, closed on the top floor of the One Newark Center in 2017 after more than two decades of business. Noodle Shop closed its doors last year.
