Essex County, NJ – The next Essex County Emergency Food Distribution Event is today, July 23rd, at the Willing Heart Community Care Center in Newark to help families negatively affected by coronavirus. The 1,000 boxes of food to be distributed are intended to benefit families dealing with food insecurity.

Residents who drive and wish to take advantage of this free giveaway should enter the parking lot from William Street. Queuing residents should line up along Springfield Avenue before turning right on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and then right on William Street. Left turns on William Street are not allowed. In addition, residents are asked not to arrive at the site until 8 a.m. This is done to allow normal traffic flow through the area and to prevent traffic safety from being created.
Residents walking to the property should enter the parking lot from Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
The emergency food boxes contain enough food to provide around 40 meals. They consist of a variety of non-perishable foods such as oatmeal, rice, fruit, peanut butter, jelly, long-life milk and canned vegetables, chilli, soup, and ravioli. Items may vary based on availability.
The emergency food boxes will be distributed according to availability. When residents arrive at the site, they will be asked to keep the windows up and open the trunk. Volunteers put an emergency food box in each vehicle.
Buses are not allowed to enter.
