Newark-De Felice Brothers Pizza will open its ninth restaurant on Monday on Granville Road, west Newark, the first outside of Steubenville, Ohio and Wheeling, West Virginia.

Scott Hanning, a Huntington Bank employee who has lived in Newark for five years, said franchisee Scott Hanning had been planning on doing this for some time. He grew up in a cycling area with six restaurants.

“Opening a franchise was my idea. The company was always looking for a franchise. I was familiar with the operation. I was familiar with the product. I still have a full time job. I keep going, but I had to find a suitable manager and I met him four years ago. “

James Hart, who has been in the restaurant business for 20 years, will be the manager of Newark.

The restaurant will be the fifth in Ohio, joining Shadyside near Wheeling, St. Clairsville, Martins Ferry, and Wintersville near Steubenville. Four locations in West Virginia are in Wheeling, Bethlehem, Moundsville and Follansbee.

Dominic DeFelice, President of DeFelice Brothers Pizza, opened the first restaurant in Shadyside, Ohio in 1982, serving original, family-style homemade pizzas and other traditional Italian dishes.

The new 1976 Granville Road restaurant in Newark offers delivery and takeaway, but no meal services. The restaurant is located half a mile east of Thornwood Crossing between Howell Drive and Westwood Drive.

According to Hanning, this location allows for quick delivery to Newark, Granville and Heath.

“The place is absolutely perfect for us,” said Hanning. “We’re a few miles from Granville. A few miles to Newark and the Northern Heath. We can hit three cities within a 5 mile radius. “

The restaurant produces freshly prepared dough every day and serves pizzas with thick and thin crust. Bake the pizza twice. The first time there is no topping. The source is the original De Felice recipe.

Hanning said he has 30 employees, most of whom are between 17 and early 20s. Salaries start at the minimum wage, but in addition to the minimum wage, drivers receive 7% of tips and commissions for each delivery.

The restaurant was open for three weeks and was due to open on Monday at 11:00 a.m.

“There are few or no ads and they have been pretty well received so far. We sold peaks and valleys, but we were able to train our employees.

“We are fortunate to have a good group interested in helping. Many are still in school. They learned how to operate very quickly. Thanks to the team for collecting. It’s a fun environment. “
