A man who broke into a city cinema and stole carbonated drinks was arrested.
Shane Barthorpe of Kingswell Avenue in Arnold also tampered with an empty box office at Newark’s Odeon Cinema after entering the London Road building at around 4:35 p.m. on Sunday, March 21.
Barthorpe, 33, was identified through CCTV investigations and arrested two days later.
He admitted burglary charges at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday March 24 and was sentenced to 20 weeks in prison.
Nottinghamshire Police’s Newark Beat Manager Constable Robert Nelson said: “We are actively patrolling our town centers and have taken many measures to protect our business, many of which have long been closed due to the pandemic.
“This break-in was committed in one of the places we were doing more patrols under the Newark Safer Streets Fund.
“Barthorpe was quickly brought to justice for his crimes and we work hard to get that done when a crime has been committed.
“We take all break-ins seriously and work around the clock to determine who is responsible.
“We will continue our activities to combat crime in the city center and welcome any information from our members of the public, if they see anything suspicious at all.”
