NEWARK, NJ – Two men and two women were shot dead in Newark on Sunday.

The four victims were shot dead on the 300 block of Chancellor Avenue, said Brian O’Hara, director of public safety for Newark.

One of the women was seriously injured.

Two police offices attached a tourniquet to a victim’s leg to prevent bleeding.

“I recommend Newark Police Officers Troy Frye and Oscar Acevedo to put on a tourniquet
the victim’s leg, which is keeping them from bleeding profusely, ”O’Hara said. “Your swift life-saving efforts are testament to the cultural change our police division has experienced and the highest priority our police officers place on saving lives.”

Director O’Hara urged anyone with information about the incident to call the division’s 24-hour criminal investigation department at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477). All anonymous crime stopper tips are kept confidential and can result in a reward.
